Next week I'm doing a Tanner-Beamer-Little Colorado hike, so it would be nice to see the confluence of the Colorado River and Little Colorado River from on top before I see it from the bottom. I stop in at the Backcountry Office for my first try at a walk-up permit. I am in luck. This will be my third solo hike in the Canyon. It is fifteen miles each way from Desert View to Cape Solitude. Since this is a totally dry hike, water is a concern. My plan is to hike in eight miles, set up camp for two nights, do a day hike the second day of seven miles each way to Cape Solitude, and hike out the third day. I have set waypoints in one-mile increments in my GPS, so I should know exactly where I am at all times and how much farther I have to go.
